First Reading: Daniel 9-10, 13-14
Second Reading: 2 Peter 1:16-19
Gospel: Mark 9:2-10
REFLECTION:
Jesus had often invited Peter, James and John to accompany him so they were at ease as he led them up the mountain. But when Jesus “was transfigured before them and his clothes became dazzling white,” they were shocked. Their confusion increased when the prophets of old, Elijah and Moses, appeared talking to Jesus. But then it got more complicated as a voice from a cloud said, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” As they looked around they saw only the Jesus they knew and loved. They were very puzzled and frightened by what had just happened and it probably didn’t help that Jesus asked them not to share this with anyone. Surely they recognized that something of primary importance had just been revealed to them. They must have pondered what it all meant and wondered how they were to respond. This experience must have been with them all their lives. God speaks to us through the people and events of our lives but we don’t always recognize the message immediately. Sometimes we need to reflect on our experiences and be open to God’s loving guidance. God offers us opportunities to be transformed, to become more Christlike. Let us become more receptive to God’s call.
1. How has your faith in Jesus transformed you?
2. How has the example of Jesus helped you become a better person and Christian?
PRAYER:
Lord, open my mind and my heart to your Word. Let me allow you to mold and transform my being. Amen.
