REFLECTION:
Jesus tells us that we must be alert for the signs of “the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” He also says, “People will die of fright” when they see the signs in the sun, the moon and the stars and on the earth. But he encourages us to “stand erect and raise your hands because your redemption is at hand.” As Christ’s faithful followers we can be confident of God’s loving care for us. We remember that God’s Son became one of us and died for us in order to open the gates of heaven. We remember that Christ came to us in our Baptism and remains present in us as we struggle to live according to his Word and to share his word with others. Christ encourages us to “Be vigilant at all times and to pray for strength when the signs of his return are apparent. Christ assures us that when the end of time comes we need not be afraid. We can trust that the faithful love of our God who has been with us all our days will protect us and lead us to eternal glory.
1. What have been the strengths of your prayer life? What habit of prayer could you strengthen during this Advent season?
2. What prayers will you say each day and each week during Advent?
PRAYER:
Dear Jesus, help me to be more aware of your presence and alert to your call. May I turn to you always confident of your faithful, providential care for me. Amen.
