Reflection for Sunday 04/8/07

READINGS
First Reading: Acts 10:34a, 37-43
Second Reading: Colossians 3:1-4
Gospel: John 20:1-9

REFLECTION:
It was still dark as Mary Magdalene approached Jesus’ tomb that Sunday morning. She was sad and feeling abandoned. As she drew closer to the tomb she could see an opening. Someone had rolled the stone away! Mary Magdalene, worried that someone had taken Jesus’ body, rushed to tell the other disciples. Peter and John returned with her and now, in the early morning light, they could see the burial cloths left behind in the tomb. Their fear was replaced with joy. Jesus had left the tomb on his own. He had risen from the dead as he had promised. Mary Magdalene was led from despair to the joy of the resurrection that momentous morning. In the darkest times of our lives haven’t we, too seen a small opening just ahead, waking us to possibilities? Offering us a shred of hope? And sometimes hasn’t a friend taken us by the hand and led us forward through the darkness into the light? Those moments are gifts from a loving God, granting us a share in the glory and the joy of the Resurrection.

1. What change could the hope of the resurrection of Christ inspire you to make?
2. What bad habit would you like to “clear out” during the hopeful time of this Easter Season?

PRAYER:
Our hearts are filled with joy, Lord Jesus, as we celebrate your rising from the dead. We rejoice in your love for us and trust always in your mercy. Our hope of eternal life rests in you. Amen.
