Second Reading: Romans 5:1-5
Gospel: John 16:12-15
REFLECTION:
At the Last Supper Jesus tried to prepare the apostles for what lay ahead. He was well aware that he didn’t have much more time with them. He knew the days ahead would be difficult and he was concerned that they might be confused. He assured them saying, “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth.” And we know that the Holy Spirit did come upon them with his power and wisdom, empowering the disciples to preach all that Jesus taught them. We know the truth of Jesus our Redeemer because the Spirit acted through the apostles and through generations of Christians who have protected, shared, and handed down this truth to us. The Holy Spirit continues to act in our world, guiding and inspiring us to seek to know, love and serve our God more fully. Just as Jesus promised, the Holy Spirit grants us wisdom to understand the truth of the Father that was revealed to us through the Son and the Holy Spirit brings us courage to live by these truths.
1. In what difficult situation has the Holy Spirit helped you see more clearly?
2. What kind of decision can the Holy Spirit help you with?
PRAYER:
We are grateful, O Holy Spirit, for your presence in our lives. Continue to lead us to a fuller understanding of the truth and grant us the wisdom to live according to the truth. Amen.
