2008 GOLDEN/SILVER WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES
The 2008 Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass for couples celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary will be held March 29 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Christopher Parish in Vandalia. Couples celebrating their Golden or Silver Wedding Anniversary during 2008 should notify the parish by February 15.

NEW LIFE IN CHRIST
ELLEN MICHELLE GREENE, daughter of Brian Greene and Patricia Nugent Greene, Rosemont Blvd.; EVAN DANIEL BRUN, son of Dennis Brun and Lisa Holtvoigt, Crab Tree Drive; SAMUEL JAMES BRUN, son of Randy Brun and Peggy Muick, Stonewood Drive received new life through the waters of Baptism in recent weeks.

TRACK & BASEBALL SIGN-UPS
All RE and Ascension boys and girls in grades 3-8 who would like to be in track ($30) and boys in grades 4-8 who would like to play baseball ($40) can submit a form printed off Ascension’s website at www.ascensionkettering.org/school/sports.htm#. Forms must be turned in to the school or parish office no later than Friday, January 18th. After the 18th a $35 late fee will be assessed.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Classes WILL meet on January 20-21.
Volunteers Needed: Sunday-Scripture Catechist to discuss the Sunday gospel with students.

FIRST RECONCILIATION PARENT MEETING
Parents of all children who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time should attend a meeting in the Witzman Center on Monday, January 14. Two sessions will be held: 4:30-5:30 p.m. and 7:00-8:00 p.m. Please choose the session that is more convenient.

YOUTH MINISTRY
HS Retreat Team Forming – 9-12th grade teens are invited to assist in planning and leading our winter retreat on President’s Day weekend. Team meetings Sunday, 4:00-6:00 p.m. January/February. Contact the Youth Office for details 253-1997 or jmurray@ascentionkettering.org.

Family Ski Trip – Sunday, January 27 at Perfect North Slopes. Overnight retreat option Saturday at YMCA with games, swimming and retreat activities. Open to JH and HS youth and family members. Flyers at church doors.

STORYTELLERS: YOUTH MINISTRY THROUGH DRAMA
Dayton Area Youth Ministries presentation of the musical “No Greater Love” will be the weekends of February 29 and March 7 in various churches throughout Dayton. All High School age youth (classes ’08-’11) are invited to be a part of this incredible experience as actors, singers, musicians and crew. All who audition are cast. Auditions for actors, singers and musician are at St. Christopher Parish (435 E. National Rd., Vandalia, Ohio) on January 13 at 1:00 p.m. or January 14 at 7:00 p.m. Crew should come to an initial planning meeting on January 15 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Christopher. WHY CATHOLIC?
Our Why Catholic? small groups will restart the week of January 27 for six weeks of Lent beginning January 27. Study of Scripture and Catholic teachings will continue with Life in Christ: Walking with God. NURSING HOME OR HOMEBOUND PARISHIONERS
If you know of any parishioners who are homebound or in a nursing home that are not being visited by a Eucharistic Minister please let Sister Agnes know. We do want to keep in touch.

ANSWER THE CALL – 2008
The 14th Annual Catholic Men’s Conference will be held Saturday, March 1st, at Music Hall in Cincinnati, Ohio. Prayerful, spirit-filled, life changing! The day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends around 4:00 p.m. following Mass with our local Bishops and Priests con-celebrating. A dynamic line-up of speakers is scheduled, including: Brian Kelly, University of Cincinnati head football coach; Tarek Saab, a 28 year old CEO, author, and finalist on the reality TV show, “The Apprentice,” Bro. Loughlan Sofield, who has devoted his life to working with the clergy and the laity to expand their knowledge and effectiveness in the church; and Fr. Phillip Chavez, a priest of the Society of Our Lady of the Holy Trinity who “strives to call men toward their natural duty to mentor younger men.” Fr. Mark Burger will also return this year to lead the inspirational Reconciliation Service that has been an integral part of previous conferences. DIVORCE CARE
This special help seminar and support group for adults experiencing divorce or separation will be held on Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m., January 17 through April 17 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. DivorceCare features nationally recognized experts on divorce and recovery topics such as anger, loneliness, new relationships, etc. DivorceCare For Kids is another support group which will run concurrently with the adult sessions. It is a special place for children, ages 5-12, to find help and healing with other kids who understand what it feels like when parents divorce. The registration fee is $25.00. YOU ARE INVITED
The Kettering Community Chorus is about to start rehearsals for its 2008 season. If you enjoy singing, you will certainly enjoy singing with this musical organization. The members are from all parts of the Miami Valley. Our repertoire will include four sets: 1) spirituals, 2) a medley of old familiar hymns, 3) a medley of music by Irving Berlin, and 4) music from animated Disney films. DAY OF REFLECTION
Join the Sisters of Notre Dame, Covington, Ky., for a Day of Reflection to discover one’s personal vocation on becoming who you are. Single women ages 18-40 are invited for a day of sharing, reflection, prayer and socializing on January 19 from 10:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Overnight accommodations are available. HELP THE POOR

HAM SHOOT
The Knights of Columbus Council 4424 will hold its family oriented Ham Shoot on January 20, 11:00 a.m. sign-in, and Noon start shooting. New menu, new rally format, quicker and faster action. FOOD PANTRY COLLECTION
The next Food Pantry collection will take place next weekend, January 19-20. As we begin to replenish the Pantry following the distribution of holiday baskets, we have a special need for the basics including soup and other canned or packaged foods; Jell-O and puddings, macaroni & cheese; hand, bath, dish and Laundry soap; bathroom tissue, etc. Thank you for your continued support. If you forget the dates of our collections, there are always marked boxes for the Pantry in the brides room, located just off the Narthex.

ADOPTION FAIR
The 6th Annual Adoption Fair will be held on January 26 at Fairhaven Church, 637 E. Whipp Road from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Adoption and Foster Care professionals from 30 area organizations will answer questions about infant domestic adoption, international adoption, and school age/sibling group adoption. ITALIAN DINNER AND AUCTION
Helping families with pregnancy and parenting needs. Come and enjoy a delicious Italian dinner, while you bid on baskets and many other unique items. The event is being held at Knights of Columbus 78 Old Dayton-Yellow Springs Road, Fairborn, Ohio on January 19. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.; dinner starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. Cost: $7.00 adults; $3.00 child; $20.00 max for family. Please bring something new or gently used for the auction.
