Reflection for Sunday 04/20/08

READINGS
First Reading: Acts 6:1-7
Second Reading: 1 Peter 2:4-9
Gospel: John 14:1-12

REFLECTION:
At the Last Supper, knowing that the authorities were closing in on him, Jesus encouraged his disciples. He offered them hope and reassurance so their faith would remain strong through the difficult times to come. He told them, “Do not let your hearts be troubled” because he was going ahead to prepare a dwelling place with the Father for them. The apostles need not worry because “I am the way, and the truth and the life…If you know me, then you will also know the Father.” Jesus asks them to “Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me.” Jesus states that his words and works are the words and works of the Father. So Jesus wants us to understand that the mercy and kindness that he offered the sinners and the disabled were the acts of the Father as much as his. His words and acts reveal the Father to us and as faithful followers of Christ, our words and deeds will reveal Christ to the world. Jesus tells us not to be afraid to follow him as he is leading us to the Father.

1. In a challenge you face right now, what will it mean to live the way of Jesus Christ?
2. Name some ways you can imitate Jesus when you are on the playground or on a sports team.

PRAYER:
Jesus, you are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Allow me to follow you, trust in you and live forever in your peace. Amen
