REFLECTION:
Motivational speakers tell us that if we want to be successful we need to identify our goal and commit ourselves to realizing that goal. We need to set priorities and live by them if we want to succeed. What Jesus offers us is far more than worldly success and he assures us that to enter into the kingdom of God we must make choices. Jesus tells us about the man who “out of joy” sold all that he had in order to buy the field where the treasure he desired was buried. He also described the merchant who sold everything in order to own “a pearl of great price.“ As Christians we hope to enter the reign of God but what price are we willing to pay? What sacrifice are willing to make? Are we willing to abandon things or relationships that undermine our commitment to Christ? What actions do we take to keep our focus on our goal? This is a challenging life we have chosen that requires both generosity and courage but we are confident that Jesus is with us, guiding and loving us always.
1. What would you be willing to “sell,” or do without, in order to achieve your dreams for yourself or your family?
2. What good thing do you want so much that you would give up something else to get it?
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, grant me the wisdom to make good choices as I seek to be your faithful servant and join you in your kingdom. Amen
