Second Reading: Romans 11:33-36
Gospel: Matthew 16:13-20

REFLECTION:
If someone were to ask us “Who is Jesus?” we could probably answer that question easily. We could repeat what we learned from our parents and religion teachers: Jesus is the Son of God, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, the Messiah, our Redeemer. We could tell them that Jesus preached, performed miracles, forgave sins, died for us, and then rose from the dead. But if someone asked us “Who do you say Jesus is? What difference does he make in your life now?” perhaps our answers would not flow so readily. To answer these questions we need to look into our heart and soul. It is one thing to know that Jesus came to save all mankind. It is another to believe that Jesus came to save me. We say that Jesus loves everyone, but do I believe that Jesus loves me? We know that Jesus commissioned the apostles to teach others what they learned from him but do I hear him call me to share good news, too? If we can somehow allow Jesus to be more than an historical figure and become aware that Jesus lives and acts in us today, our answer to “Who is Jesus to you?” will be seen in how we live and act.

1. Which church leader has most influenced your personal faith?
2. What has your pastor taught you about Jesus?

PRAYER:
Dear Jesus, help me to trust more fully in your love for me. Let confidence in your love free me to serve you and your people. Amen
