REFLECTION:
It was a routine day at the Temple. Of course, it was special for Mary and Joseph who came to present the infant Jesus to the Lord. It was only when Simeon took the baby in his arms that other visitors to the temple noticed the young family. When Simeon declared “… my eyes have seen your salvation … a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.“ all those who heard his words were astonished. They were amazed, too, when the prophetess Anna also “spoke about the child to all who were waiting the redemption of Jerusalem.” Mary and Joseph knew their son had been sent by God but even they must have wondered at these prophetic words. This had become an extraordinary day. God had entered into those gathered in the temple on this day. Most of our days are routine but perhaps we need to be more alert to the presence of God in the ordinary moments of our life. If we open our hearts perhaps we will see the sacred in the people around us. God waits for us not only in the peaks and valleys of life but even in its routine.
1. How do your family members know that you are a compassionate person?
2. What family member needs your compassion and kindness right now?
PRAYER:
Allow me, Almighty God, to grow in grace and wisdom. Help me to become more aware of your presence and to cherish those sacred moments. Amen
