REFLECTION:
St. Paul is clearly concerned that the Christian community in Corinth may not be prepared for the end time which Paul believes is imminent. Paul wants his followers to be as free as possible to focus on their heavenly Redeemer. He seems to be saying that no matter what our state of life is we need to be grounded in God. All our life choices should be rooted in God enabling us to serve God with joy and gratitude. We certainly have responsibilities that we must attend to but can we see them as part of our relationship to God? Can we keep in mind that, as we serve others, we serve their Creator? Can we allow our love of God to add a new dimension to our relationship with each other? Can we make our major life choices in the context of our desire to serve our God? Can we allow our actions to demonstrate to others our faith in our Redeemer? Paul is exhorting us to strive to always place God first. It may not always be easy but we can trust that Jesus will guide and strengthen our commitment.
1. What can you tell others about Jesus with the most assurance?
2. What is the most important thing you would like others to know about Jesus? How will you show or tell them?
PRAYER:
Help me to put you first in my life, dear Lord. Free me from the distractions and weaknesses that keep me from serving you with my whole heart. Amen
