REFLECTION:
In the letter to the Hebrews it is clear that Jesus did not want to suffer but he chose to be obedient to his Father’s will. It is through his obedience that heaven is open to us. Lent seems to be an opportune time to consider how well we obey God’s call. God asks us to die to our selfish ways, to turn away from any and all things that come between our God and us. Our lives can be hectic and the demands on our time exhausting but God expects us to strive to make room for God in our daily life. Lent may be a good time to check our priorities. Do we pray on a regular basis? We glorify God when we serve those in need. Keeping that in mind what do we do for others? Do we give our family the loving attention it deserves? God does not ask us to change without offering us the strength to be successful. As we commit to serving God in words and actions, God sends us new life to encourage and strengthen us. God responds to our cries as he did to Jesus’ cries and lends us strength and courage.
1. When and in what way have you seen life come from death?
2. When have you felt stronger because you sacrificed something for a friend or member of your family?
PRAYER:
Lord, help me to empty myself of all that keeps me from dying to self. Strengthen my commitment to humbly serve you always. Amen
