REFLECTION:
Pentecost was a pivotal moment in the lives of the apostles. Jesus had assured them that he would send the “Spirit of truth” to guide and support them but still they huddled together, fearful and unsure. Then suddenly “.. a noise like a strong driving wind … filled the entire house…“ and “ tongues of fire … came to rest on each one of them … “ Immediately their fears dissipated and, as they began to preach, each listener heard them in his or her own language. The Holy Spirit filled all who were there with courage and hope. Their lives were changed forever. We, too, are invited to welcome the Holy Spirit to dwell in our hearts and our faith community. The Holy Spirit wants to share with us gifts that will empower and strengthen us as we reach out to others offering loving service. The Holy Spirit will grant us wisdom and patience as we seek to bring peace by helping to heal wounds or foster reconciliations. The Holy Spirit gave the apostles the courage they needed to do God’s work. The Spirit offers us courage, too. We need only accept.

1. When has the Holy Spirit given you the strength to act with courage?
2. When and where do you need the Holy Spirit’s help to speak out?

PRAYER:
Help me, Lord, to follow in the steps of the apostles. Send the Holy Spirit to guide and lead me as I strive to serve your people. Amen
