REFLECTION:
Mary had traveled some distance through the hills to visit her cousin Elizabeth who was also pregnant. Elizabeth was touched that her young cousin had come to see her but she realized very quickly that something extraordinary was happening. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting “the infant leapt in her womb” and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She cried out to Mary, “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.“ Elizabeth realized that Mary was to be “the mother of my Lord” and was awed to have Mary and her unborn child in her home. Mary must have been grateful for Elizabeth’s reaction as now she had someone who seemed to understand that God had called her to be the mother of the Redeemer. The time that Mary and Elizabeth shared must have been filled with joy and hope. They were grateful for God’s presence in the world and confident that the coming of the Messiah was at hand. We, in this Advent season, can join Mary and Elizabeth in looking ahead in joyful wonder for the coming of Christ the Savior.
1. When was it hardest for you to trust in God’s plan for you, as Mary did? What can help you at such times?
2. When is it hardest for you to obey a parent or teacher? What can help you obey with more trust?
PRAYER:
During this Advent season, Lord of all, renew in me a spirit of joyful wonder as I await your coming. Amen
