REFLECTION:
The story of the Magi tells of wondrous gifts. The journey of the three astrologers to find the newborn king of the Jews was long and hazardous. In addition to the gold, frankincense and myrrh they presented to Jesus they brought their persistent faith. Jesus himself is the most extraordinary gift of all. God the Father sent his Son Jesus to bring salvation to all peoples. What an unbelievable gift! Each of us is called to follow the Magi, spending our lives in search of the gift who is Jesus. The Magi followed a new star; we look to the light who is Jesus. The Magi found a king in the most unlikely of settings. We may need to set aside expectations and be open to meeting Jesus in surprising places and people. Jesus came first to the world in Bethlehem but he comes again and again into our lives, loving and guiding us. We respond to God’s gifts with prayers of gratitude and praise. We may also be moved to share our gifts more generously in service to each other. It is in this way that the gifts of the Magi continue to change the world.
1. Who helps you see God? Who or what makes believing more difficult?
2. What gifts do we as a faith community have to offer God in response to his love?
PRAYER:
Most Gracious God, thank you for the awesome gift of your Son and for the faith that gives meaning to my life. Amen
