REFLECTION:
Why did Jesus go into the desert? Why did he feel the need to take such a long time away from his routine and his family and friends? Perhaps he was hearing his Father calling him to begin his public ministry. He needed some time alone to pray and reflect on this huge change in his life. Perhaps he struggled as he sought to understand his mission and to surrender himself to his Father’s will. And haven’t we all had similar struggles? Times of decision are often difficult. We may be confused by the variety of options. We may feel pressured by our responsibilities or other people’s opinions. We may feel inadequate to even make the decision. We may be afraid of making changes. Jesus models for us a good way to make choices. When faced with a major decision, it would seem wise to step back from our routine and invite God into our decision-making process. God is ready to guide as we pray and reflect over our choices.
1. How willing are you to profess your faith in Jesus Christ openly to others?
2. Would you still be able to say that you believe in Jesus if others made fun of you for it?
PRAYER:
As I begin my Lenten journey, Lord, please guide me to make wise choices. Help me to place my life in your hands, depending on your love and mercy. Forgive me, Lord, for the many times I have failed to trust in you. Amen
