REFLECTION:
Jesus clearly claims us as his own, “My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me.” These words describe a loving relationship between Jesus and us, his disciples. We can depend on his care and be secure in his love. He and the Father are One and they invite us to eternal life. We are offered hope and love as we follow Jesus in faith. But, of course, life gets complicated sometimes, and other voices compete with Jesus’. Sometimes we are not sure which voice is Jesus’ or where he is leading us. Other times we recognize Jesus’ voice but we don’t want to go where he is leading. And sometimes we don’t listen at all. Discipleship requires making choices. At our Baptism, we chose, or our parents and godparents chose for us, to follow Christ. But that was just the beginning. Every day we have opportunities to choose again to become more Christ-like. Somehow we need to stay attuned to Jesus so we hear him clearly as he calls us closer to himself. We need to remember that Jesus is always watching over us leading us to eternal truth and joy.
1. Whom do you try to protect as Christ protects you?
2. Who helps you feel safe and protected? Whom can you take care of and help feel safe?
PRAYER:
Good Shepherd, teach me to listen for your voice and to follow where you lead me. Forgive me when I wander away and bring me back safely to you. Amen
