READINGS
First Reading: Deuteronomy 30:10-14
Second Reading: Colossians 1:15-20
Gospel: Luke 10:25-37

REFLECTION:
In the Book of Deuteronomy Moses is speaking to the Jewish people as they are about to enter Canaan. Moses is encouraging the people to be faithful to the commandments and to turn their lives over to God. He assures them that these goals are attainable. God’s way is not “across the sea” but “it is something very near to you, already in your mouths and in your hearts; you have only to carry it out.” What encouraging words for us! If we seek always to be faithful to God’s Word; if we continually renew our commitment to God, God’s Word can become part of our very being. Ultimately all that we are and do will reflect God’s Will. And, with God’s grace, this is possible. The acts of the Good Samaritan suggest that he is moving along this path. He acted in loving service to a fellow human being whom others had ignored. He acted without regard to cultural biases or societal pressure. His commitment to a loving God so strongly formed his character and will that he was able to reach out to another as God intends us all to do.

1. When have you gone out of your way to help a stranger in need?
2. Would you help a new student who needed help? Why or why not?

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I want to be your faithful child. Lead me, mold me so that your way becomes my way. Teach me to serve you and your people lovingly. Amen
