REFLECTION:
Honesty and humility go hand in hand. Too often we confuse humility with false modesty that denies or downplays our talents and accomplishments but often, in reality, is fishing for praise and recognition. Real humility instead recognizes that our successes grow from the gifts we have been freely given by God. We may have worked hard to achieve our success but honesty keeps us aware that the good we achieve is not for ourselves alone. Our gifts and talents are meant to be used and shared for the good of all. Humility enables us to serve one another even as we become more aware of our own limitations but it also teaches us to accept and value the gifts of others. Honesty helps us to look at our lives with clarity and to see others without prejudice. Humility allows us to see our role in this world and our connection to all God’s people. Humility helps us to accept the aid of others with grace. Humility is a virtue worth cultivating as we work together to serve the Lord in grace and peace.

1. Has the hunger for status and influence in the world around you endangered your life as a Christian?
2. How can you practice giving yourself or your possessions without expecting anything in return?

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, help me to recognize the talents you have given me. Help me, Lord, to use these gifts wisely and generously. Gratefully I praise your name, O Lord. Amen
