REFLECTION:
Jesus tells us, “Do not be afraid any longer, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom.” What a foundation to build our lives on! What joy and confidence these words offer us! It seems that too often we dwell on what we think God doesn’t want. But Jesus seems to be clearly telling us that God is eager for us to be part of the kingdom. God wants us to live in hope and confidence rather than in fear. One of the great strengths of the Jewish people was their awareness that they were the chosen people. God selected them, guided them, and promised to be faithful to them. We, too are part of that same history and covenant. We, too, can trust in God’s presence in our lives. In some ways the kingdom begins now, in this world, and Jesus asks us to be his stewards as he returns to the Father. We have been “entrusted with much” and “much will be required” of us. We are to nurture the faith and hope God has given us so that we can better serve each other and invite others into the kingdom.
1. Other than Jesus, which of the ancestors of Christian faith has served as the greatest example to you? Why?
2. Which person of the Bible has been a good example to you of how to live?
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, I am ever grateful for your generosity and hope always in your care for me. Amen
