Early Childhood

Who: Three, four, and five year old children (by September 30 of the current year) and children enrolled in private, public, and Ascension kindergarten classes
When: Sunday mornings, September-May during the 10:30 Mass
Where: Classrooms in Ascension School
What: Religion readiness program designed to prepare the child for concepts developed during the elementary years. Taught by adult catechists, with teen assistants.

Elementary

Who: Students enrolled in Grades 1-5 in public or private schools and students who are home schooled
When: Monday afternoons, September-May, 4:15-5:30 p.m.
Where: Classrooms in Ascension School
What: Religion program that follows a developmental approach, in which the pillars of the Catechism – Creed, Sacraments, Morality, and Prayer – are introduced and reinforced each year to build an age-appropriate faith.

Middle School

Who: Students enrolled in Grades 6-8 in public or private schools and students who are home schooled
When: September-May
Sunday mornings, 9:45-11:15 a.m. Or Monday evenings, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Where: In small groups, in the Youth Meeting Room and rooms in Ascension School and Witzman Center.
What: Grade 6 continues the developmental approach of the elementary grades, in which the pillars of the Catechism – Creed, Sacraments, Morality, and Prayer – are introduced and reinforced each year to build an age-appropriate faith.
Grade 7 examines the Creed as the summary statement of the beliefs of the Catholic Church. Students also explore the life and message of Jesus in the four Gospels with emphasis on understanding and praying the Scriptures. The students also study St. Paul, his and other New Testament letters, and the Book of Revelation.
Grade 8 examine the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes as guides to living a successful moral life. The principles of Catholic morality, including social teaching help young teens make important life choices in their daily lives. In addition, the students the sacraments and the mystery of the Body of Christ, the Church.
Middle School students also spend a portion of each class session discussing the Sunday Gospel. Students are also expected to participate in service.
