A Collaborative Outreach Planning Team (COPT) exists between Ascension, Immaculate Conception, and St. Helen.

    Weavers of Justice’s 2007 Initiative of Poverty and Racism

St. Helen’s will hold a book read of Alex Kotlowitz’sThere are No Children Here in September. The book chronicles two years in the lives of two boys, Lafeyette and Pharoah, struggling to survive in Chicago’s Henry Horner Homes, a public housing complex disfigured by crime and neglect. The book which became a national bestseller was chosen by the New York Public Library as one of the 150 most important books of the century.

Immaculate Conception will have a showing of the movie There are No Children Here in September. In 1993, Alex Kotlowitz’s book was made into a television movie (for ABC), produced by and starring Oprah Winfrey.

Ascension will host a presentation by Alex Kotlowitz for the Catholic Social Action Committee io October 2. Click here for more information.
