Knight of Columbus Council #14891 – Our Lady of the Light

Our Lady of the Light Council was chartered November 2009 at Ascension Church, Kettering, OH. We meet the first Wednesday of every month in the Witzman Center at Ascension Church.

Church Program

Since the founding of the Knights of Columbus, council members have been and continue to be an important asset to the Catholic Church, by taking an active role in assisting the Bishops and Priests as they minister to our spiritual needs.

Our Church and Vocations programs encourage us to utilize our time and talents to support our parishes and pastors. Our goal is to create church programs that promote Catholicism and strengthen our Faith. Activities should promote devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, vocation awareness and a working relationship with our Priests and all the Religious of our Church.

The “Strong in Faith and Service” Church Activity Program is designed to make us stronger in our faith and provide service to the Priests and Religious of our parishes. As we accomplish this, we will share in the dream of Fr. McGivney, our founder.

The information above and the possible activities are based on suggestions found on the Ohio State Council website. We are a new council and have started new programs, but we will continue to add more.

We can help the parish celebrate the “Divine Mercy Day” on the Sunday after Easter (April 13, 2010).

Keep Christ in Christmas is an effort to remind everyone to remember the true reason for celebrating Christmas.  This year we created and displayed a banner.  We also have begun selling Keep Christ in Christmas magnets.

The Pastor is the leader of our church and gives our church needed guidance and direction. We vow to help the pastor with requests he may have.

We volunteered our help for the Second Annual Sister Agnes Pancake Breakfast Festival.  Coffee and doughnuts continue to be sponsored by us many times throughout the year.

The Corporate communion mass is an excellent way for us to be visible to the parish.

Many of the workers for the Blackjack booth at the Ascension Summer Festival were members of this council.

We help our parish with the Queenship of Mary celebration.

Lay Ministers are vital to our parish life and when possible we should recognize all they do for us.

A Parish Round Table can be established to allow better communication of the church needs with the Pastor and our council.

A committee can be established to aid the vocation of the parish.

We should support Seminarians and other Religious when needs arise.

The previous are examples of ways to aid and support Ascension. We welcome any other suggestions.
