Knight of Columbus Council #14891 – Our Lady of the Light
Our Lady of the Light Council was chartered November 2009 at Ascension Church, Kettering, OH. We meet the first Wednesday of every month in the Witzman Center at Ascension Church.
Youth Program
“We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future”. This quote, by our 32nd president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, is what the Knights of Columbus youth program represents. The youth of our community and parish are our future. Just as you would invest your paycheck to pay dividends down the road, Knights of Columbus councils should invest time and energy to build strong, moral, decent young men and women to be our future. The youth are put to the test each day to follow the right path. We, members of the largest Catholic fraternal organization in the world, can be guides to these youth to point them in the right directions. Youth Programs that our council holds can make a difference in the lives of our future generations.
The “Strong in Faith and Service” State Youth Activities program is designed to help our youth be the better citizens of tomorrow. These programs can help the young men and women of our parishes and communities learn, enjoy, and grow.
The information above and the possible activities are based on suggestions found on the Ohio State Council website. We are a new council and have started new programs, but we will continue to add more.
Although we were not able to hold the Basketball Free Throw Contest last January, we organized the Soccer Challenge and hope to add the Basketball soon.
We assisted with drug awareness activity by sponsoring a poster contest to help our youth understand the dangers and have the necessary tools for dealing with the issues of drugs.
We are also creating a scholarship for youth attending a catholic HS based on essays and the KofC ideas each student represents.
As with the families, we should also encourage safe activities for the youth during holidays.
Establishing a Squires group allows the Youth to become involved with the Knights at a young age. As well, the Squires provides youth males a group with common ideals and goals.
If Squires are established, joint programs will help the Knights and the Squires. Working with our youth sets a good example and provides mentor-ship.
The previous are examples of ways to build our Youth. We welcome any other suggestions.
