Every year the United States government allows a limited number of refugees fleeing from their homelands torn by violence and war to begin new lives in America. In Catholic Social Services assisted 152 such refugees get settled in the Miami Valley. In keeping with Ascension’s tradition of hospitality on the weekend of the July 4th you will find a Freedom Tree in our narthex decorated with stars. Listed on each star will be a small item, such as school supplies, flashlight, broom, waste basket, that will help a refugee begin to feel at home here. You are invited to choose a star, purchase the item listed and on the weekend of July 11th place it, unwrapped, in the marked container in the narthex.
2008 Look, too, for brochures that describe more fully the Refugee Resettlement Program. Thanks in advance for extending a welcome to these refugees who have come so far.
