KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
The Knights of Columbus is a world-wide fraternal organization of Catholic men. Our council was named after our twinning parish in Lima, Peru; Nuestra Senora de la Luz, Our Lady of the Light. We meet the first Wednesday of each month in the Witzman Center. The rosary is recited at 6:30 PM, followed by the business section at 7:00 PM.
The principles of the Knights of Columbus are:
Charity: Our faith in God compels us to show our love, both spiritually and materially, for our family, neighbors and community by donating our time and resources to enhance the lives of those in need.
Unity: We stand united, as brothers, in support of the Church’s teachings on abortion, social issues and other moral concerns which afflict our society today.
Fraternity: The venerable Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, in large part, to provide assistance to the widows and children of the breadwinners who died. The Order’s top-rated insurance program continues today.
Patriotism: We are proud of our devotion to God and country and stand up for both. This aspect of Knighthood is the most publicly visible as members provide honor guards for our clergy and in support of our country.

Local Knights of Columbus Council 14891 Receives Top Award
The Ascension Parish Knights of Columbus Council 14891, Our Lady of the Light, has received the distinction of Star Council, the international organization’s top award for local councils. The Star Council Award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of membership, promotion of fraternal insurance benefits, sponsorship of faith formation programs and service-oriented activities. We have a lot of activities under our Faith, Family, Community and Life programs that are very rewarding and fun to participate in. I would be happy to discuss the details of the many programs that we participate in. Food for Families is one of my favorite! The Knights of Columbus can provide you a lifelong brotherhood and friendship that you will forever be thankful for. Want to become a part of that? We need good Catholic men to join us.
